Enduring Understanding

By the end of the semester the student should be able to carry on a basic conversation. Also, upon completion of this course, one will be able to read and create basic sentences using the fundamental grammatical tools that are taught at this level of Arabic.



 

Course Design

 

The text in this course, Al-Kitaab, will provide the students with the fundamentals of the Arabic language. The course will rely heavily on audio-lingual methods of language acquisition and stress comprehension, pronunciation and the development of reading skills.



       

Assessments

Attendance and class participation are essential. Homework assignments are designed to reinforce new grammatical concepts and enhance fluency of the language. Tests will be administered in 1-2 unit intervals. The tests determine 30% of the final grade. Class participation makes up 10% and the midterm and final exam is also 60% of the final grade.
