Enduring Understanding

  • Students at the end of the semester will have a basic understanding of Hindi language.
  • They will master Hindi alphabet and phonetic sounds necessary for the verbal and written usage of the language. Students will also be able to have a daily life conversation in Hindi, read simple Hindi text, write simple sentences in Hindi, and have basic Indian cultural knowledge.


 

Course Design

 

Using the distance learning technology available to students and instructor, this online course seeks to provide students with the necessary tools to learn Hindi language. They will recognize and appreciate diversity around them; and understand Hindi language and Indian culture as a part of the evolving global culture.

 

The Mother of all of the languages, Sanskrit, and its script, Devanagari makes the base of Hindi language. Through guiding, encouraging, practicing speaking, listening, reading, and writing in Hindi, the students will gain a comprehensive knowledge of Hindi and related culture. A variety of activities for vocabulary building, watching Hindi movie, reading Hindi newspaper, researching about Indian culture etc will be used.
