High School Russian 4A and 4B
High School Russian 4A and 4B is designed for students who have mastered the language skills in Elementary Russian. Students are usually prepared for study in Russia after they have completed this level. Students learn to operate in basic social and cultural environments in Russia through the use of authentic materials: film, poetry, stories, video, ads, proverbs, tails, food, and song. Conversational skills needed on the telephone, train, hotel and other daily situations; listening and reading skills such as mass media and classical Russian literature are studied. Course offers more emphasis on practical grammar with its immediate activation in conversations. Classes are centered on the textbook Welcome Back: Russian Stage Two, an integrated Russian language program based on a video series that take students to Moscow to follow the new adventures and misadventures of Russian college student Tania, her friends and family.
Prerequisite: HS Russian 3B or approval by BSN Instructor
Enduring Understanding
- Students at the end of the semester will have improved functional competence in speaking, listening, reading and writing Russian.
- They will be able to have conversations in Russian; understand native speaker who speaks slowly and clearly; read and retell short Russian stories and have significant Russian cultural knowledge.
- In terms of the ACTFL proficiency scale, the aim of this course is to provide the learner with the tools necessary for attaining a solid Intermediate Mid Level proficiency.
Course Design
Using the distance learning technology available to students and instructor, this course seeks to provide students with the necessary tools to learn Russian language at the intermediate level of study. Through practicing speaking, listening and writing in Russian, they will gain a solid knowledge of Russian language which will give them a rudimentary knowledge in both written and spoken Russian.
