Real-time interaction with our language instructors and students takes place in a live online environment, Wimba Classroom. Students can attend class anywhere they have a computer and Broadband Internet connection.

While wireless cards may work with the software, we recommend using a wired Ethernet connection for the live classes to ensure a quality experience.


As the number of students taking the class from the same site increase, the amount of bandwidth needed also increases. Please try to have at least 400 kps available for each student.

  • Using speakers and regular computer microphones is not recommended and can cause feedback during class for participants.

  • Macintosh systems should use USB headsets.
  • PCS may use analog or USB. USB is usually better quality but is more expensive.

Install Wimba Classroom
  1. Make sure your USB headset is plugged in before launching Wimba Classroom link.
  2. If you are preparing computers for student use, make sure you test under a student account or network.
  3. Test your Java on your computer here to make sure you have Java 1.5 or above. If you need to install Java, go here.
  4. Click here to run the Wimba Classroom Setup Wizard.
  5. When finished, enter the Wimba Classroom Test Room from the same link. At the login screen, choose Participant login and enter your first name. Click Enter.
  6. Once inside the room, follow the instructions on the eBoard and test your connection and audio.
  7. When finished, close the window to log out.
